Chairs, ink, paper, speakers, 2019
Installation in collaboration with Alvin McIntyre
“Invocations to the Unnamable” is a continuation of the artists’ investigation on rituals, in the form of a site-specific installation realized for Gamo Kan Gallery space in November 2019.
The artists invited seven local people to offer personal invocations, or questions addressed towards the “unnamable”. The word Unnamable is used in order to avoid any conflict which might arise from personal interpretations of the concept of God and the sacred. The recordings of seven voices have been installed underneath a circle of chairs. The circular order represents the disposition towards a dialogue with the absent. The vibration emanating from the speakers interferes with the ink dropping from above, creating forms that could be interpreted.
