“Rituals of Inheritance” is a series of video works that look at radioactive inheritance as a dangerous gift in relation to the construction of a deep repository for nuclear waste storage in Finland. According to scholars such as Olli Pyyhtinen, gift-giving is socially entangled with danger. This series explores and speculates on the ambiguity of the “gift” that our civilization will offer to future generations. 

 

The videos develop as “ritualistic patterns”, ideated in collaboration with other artists and researchers departing from interviews and conversations on the possible meaning of gift-giving and receiving concerning the construction of a deep repository for nuclear waste storage in Finland. Currently (2024) the first video has been realized.
