archetypes of contamination

The research project “Archetypes of Contamination” looks at the relationship between radioactive contamination and the creation of reality through belief.

By testing out different hypotheses, this project looks for the space of potentiality between ‘failure’ and ‘miracle’, or the boundary between what is considered possible and the impossible through artistic research.

It departs from the idea that archetypes could function as a bridge to relate to human-created contaminants, and in particular radioactive contamination. The hypothesis that this project tackles is that, in playing a role in relating to radioactive contamination, archetypal images could foster an affective understanding of radioactivity.

This project is being realized thanks to the contribution of Taike Arts Promotion Centre, Finland.
